Botanical Name – Delonix Regia

Royal Poinciana is a flowering tree & belongs to the Fabaceae family. In India, it is known as Gulmohar Tree, Gul itself indicates to flower, & mohar is a peacock. Its crown is like an umbrella & Delonix regia is grown worldwide alongside the roads. It is an evergreen shadow tree. It is the native of Madagascar. Royal Poinciana flowers from April to July in India.
Royal Poinciana height goes up to forty feet, & diameter twelve to fourteen inches. Its canopy spreads in an area of forty to fifty feet.

Royal Poinciana can be grown by a seed sprout or you can buy it directly from the nursery. It grows well in sandy soil & prefers a warm climate. It is a fast-growing tree, in six to seven years it grows tall starts flowering.

Royal Poinciana leaves are fifteen inches long approx  & ten inches wide like a fern.  In winters tree drops its leaves. Its bark is dark grey in colour.

Royal Poinciana has three to four varieties of flowers which are red, yellow & purple in colour. Royal Poinciana flowers petals are big & maybe a diet of monkeys.

Royal Poinciana fruit is 20 to 25 inches long & 2 inches wide. Initially, its colour is light green & later it changes colour to brown-black. 

Royal Poinciana Seeds are one inch long & brown in colour.

Royal Poinciana tree have medicinal properties too so it is used to treat anti-diabetic, anti-bacterial & anti-diarrheal like ailments.
