The Ashoka Tree
English Name - Saraca Asoca
Sanskrit Name - Anganapriya, Madhupushp
Botanical Name - Saraca Asoca
Ashoka tree is one of the most ancient and sacred trees found all over India.
Ashoka tree is of two types: One is tall & handsome in dark green color, it is from the Saraca Indica family. Its straight trunk & lush green leaves make it more alluring.
Its flowers are white-yellow in color & the fruit is red. It resembles the soldiers at the entrances of the homes & organizations. Many beliefs are connected with the tree & considered as sacred & believed that it brings good luck.
Second Variety: (Sita-Ashok)
The Ashoka tree expands like a mango tree & quite shady. The tree is referred to as Sitaa-Ashok. Its leaves are 8-9 inches long & 2-2.5 inches wide. Leaves are of copper color initially & flowers are saffron which comes in autumn-(Vasant) season that’s why it is known as Hempushpa too.
Ashok tree is sowed in the north direction of the home which is the source of positive energy in the home. The meaning of Ashok is without shok (without sorrow). Its leaves are used in most rituals in India.
Medicinal Usage: Ashok tree is useful in vaat (gas), pith (acidity), kafh (cough), blood impurities, skin & gynaecological disorders.
Ashok seeds powder helps in curing breathing-related diseases.
