Fig tree is a tall & handsome tree it has big dark green leaves. Fig fruit tastes sweet & fleshy inside. It has lots of small seeds inside & has a crunchy taste when chewed.  Fig  tree  height between 25 to thirty feet & diameter 10 -12 inches.

It belongs to the Moraceae family. Fig tree roots spread area is around 50 feet & may find 15 feet deep.

Fig tree leaves are long & wide & distributed in three lobes. Their edges are like teeth.

Fig fruit may size up to 2 inches & vary in colour from reddish to copper brown.  


Fig fruit is consumed by birds, animals, 

especially by monkeys, seeds are important 

food sources for animal species.  Fig fruit 

hides the flower within these are not exposed 

from outside.


Maharashtra, Gujarat & Uttar Pradesh is the 

production hub of Fig fruit in India.


Fig comes in various varieties the popular 

one is Adriatic with pale pink to reddish 

colour sweet pulp.

Fig tree fruit is practised to relieve constipation. Leaves of the fig tree are utilised to control diabetes, high cholesterol & eczema. Fig is an edible fruit with & delicious taste.

Indian figs can be consumed simply by removing

skin & then the fruit can be used in smoothies

and juices. It is a thirst quencher too which

can be added to all juices.
