Botanical Name – Punica granatum
Pomegranate is a small tree & belongs to the Lythraceae family. It attains the height of fifteen to twenty feet & diameter eight to fifteen inches.
The tree has small thin branches & have tiny thorns. Leaves are small with glossy skin size five cm long & 2 cm wide. It's a bush-like tree spread in diameter of eight to ten feet.
Flowers are of red colour, they are the perfect destination of the honey bee.
Pomegranate fruit sizes 4-6 inches in diameter & height 5 inches. Pomegranate has semi-hard outer shell further inner part is divided into spongy chambers which contain seeds. Seeds are juicy & in purple-red colour. Formation of seeds is just like teeth.
Pomegranate Juice is obtained by crushing seeds which is a great source of vitamin A & improves blood count.Golden Globe is considered to be the best variety of Pomegranate. Pomegranate is cultivated worldwide & has different varieties according to the local weather conditions. Pomegranate is the native of Iran & North India.
Pomegranate seeds are used as a dressing in many delicious dishes.
Water requirements are comparatively low in Pomegranates, excess & less irrigating may affect the fruit size. Pomegranate tree gives good harvest when matures in 5 years.
